Ilze and Wil! These two wonderful people are getting married in a few short weeks at the beautiful Belle Meade Plantation and we cannot wait to celebrate with them. We had the pleasure of photographing their beautiful engagement session last fall at Lake Radnor and Printers Alley. If you have never visited Lake Radnor in the fall, you are missing out. It is such a beautiful hidden treasure in Nashville and you can even bring your dog. Their wonderful dog, Jake joined us for the session and he was a perfect dog the whole afternoon.
Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the gritty details.:
Ilze: I was visiting my friend from home who moved to Nashville. I was coming down to go on job interviews because I wanted to move to Nashville in the next few months. My friend had found her roommate on Craig's List, who turned out to be Wil's ex girlfriend. Wil hadn't moved out of their apartment yet when I came down to visit and I met him.
Wil: I met Ilze thru my roommate at the time. I had just broken up with my girlfriend who also lived there and we still had a month left on the lease. Ilze came to visit one of those last few weekends we all lived together. We had a nice wholesome time together.
When did you know he was the one? Was there something he did? One of the nights I was in town, Wil and I ended up staying up all night laying on the floor and talking. I knew that there was something different about him. While I was in town, I went on my interviews and I was offered a job and moved down a few months later as I had planned. Wil and I continued to hang out after I moved and we built a solid friendship. A few months after that, he was going to Florida with his friend and a girl that his friend was seeing. He invited me to go with them and I knew that I really liked him by how excited I got. Even though we continued to hang out, we didn't officially give ourselves the "boyfriend/girlfriend" titles until 7 months later (even though he told me he loved me after 6 months!) It was a slow process, but I knew that he meant everything he said and did because he didn't rush into anything
When did you know she was the one? Was there something she did? I think there was something about when I first met her that really attracted me to her. I was kind of ignoring it since I had just gotten out of a terrible relationship but I knew Ilze was special. I also didn't give it much thought since she didn't live in Nashville at the time and figured I'd probably never see her again. I can't really explain it though, there was nothing in particular she did, I just knew she was a really great person and something I'd like to explore further if given the chance. It turned out I'd get that chance when she ended up moving to Nashville a few months later.
Tell us about the proposal. Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Were you nervous, excited, and freaking out?: ILze: We had gone to look at rings together in December, so I knew it was (hopefully) coming. In January we were going to Gatlinburg with a group of friends. I thought it was going to happen then, but he told me that he went to pick up the ring and that they wouldn't give it to him yet until another payment was made on it or something. I was super upset that I had given my hopes up. We got to Gatlinburg at night and the next morning, we all went for a hike. There was a waterfall at the top and Wil said that our friend wanted a picture of us in front of it. We walk over to pose and Wil is fidgeting around and said "you know I love you, right?" I'm like "yeah..?" and in my head I'm thinking "why is he acting so weird?". Next thing I know, he's getting down on one knee and giving me the ring and asking me to marry him. I was in such shock that I just stood there and cried, I couldn't even speak. I don't even know how much time had passed before I was finally able to nod my head yes. All of our friends must be really good liars, because they were all in on the surprise and I had absolutely no idea.
Tell us about the proposal. Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? How did you feel? Were you nervous, excited, and freaking out?: Wil: I was a little nervous. I thought I wasn't going to be able to get the ring on time and we were leaving the next morning to head to Gatlinburg with friends. After some bargaining and good luck, I was able to get the ring though. After we got to Gatlinburg I mentioned that we should all go on a hike the next day. This was also after I spent several painstaking hours combing through different pictures online trying to make sure I chose the best place to propose. I ended up choosing Laurel Falls which I think ended up being perfect and Ilze was totally shocked. I'm still not sure if she ever said yes.
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other. : Ilze: I love that I can completely be myself around him and even if I'm having a terrible day, I know that he still loves me. He knows that my work days are long and mentally exhausting and I'll come home to my favorite dinner ready for me. We both try to make each other happy as much as we can.
Wil: Her genuine heart and empathetic nature to help others.
Besides getting married - what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?: Ilze: We're not doing a first look, so I'm most excited for seeing his face when I walk down the aisle. I know that I'm going to start crying immediately, but I hope that I can remember the way he looks at me at that moment forever. I hope that I'll be able to make it through saying my vows without completely breaking down!
Wil: Seeing her walk down the aisle and being able to celebrate with all of our friends.
