We love doing engagement sessions. It is a relaxed time that we get to know our couples and learn more about how they met and what their plans are for not only their wedding day, but for after the wedding as well.
We are frequently asked for advice on what to wear for the engagement session. Of course, we want each couple to express their personalities and interests in the photos and we also want them to be comfortable.
So here are a couple tips to make the most of your engagement session.
ONE: Make sure you are comfortable in what your wearing. It may have looked good in the magazine, but if your not comfortable it is going to show. If you are concerned that the shirt is clinging to you, or if you are worried that your arms look big, it will inhibit your focus on each other.
TWO: Watch the weather! In Tennessee the weather can change quickly. If it is going to be cold out, consider adding a cute fitted jacket (guys and girls) or a nice scarf. Not only will it keep you warm and prevent goosebumps in your photos, a jacket is a great way to add structure to your look.
THREE: Speaking of Structure! Consider how your clothing selection hangs on you. All clothing is not created equal :) Look for pieces that have structure and are well made. They may cost a little more, but it will make all the difference in the way the garment hangs on your body.
FOUR: Mix it up! Select two outfits. We always suggest your first outfit be more casual and relaxed. However, we love when a couple brings along a more dressy outfit for their second option. Long gowns are even a great option for your second outift!
FIVE: Can't decide what to wear? We have some Pinterest boards to help with your inspiration. Click here to see our what to wear to an engagement session board. We also have a Pinterest board that we have pinned clothing with a link for where to purchase. Click here to check out our "Engagement Outfits and Where to find them" board.
For some shopping inspiration for the guys a wonderful site, that you can gain inspiration from the style of whatever celebrity you can relate to the most. It is called Famous Outfits, and there are some great ensembles for the guys featured there.
For the ladies check out Birds Nest for some ensemble inspiration.
SIX: Splurge! Professional hair and makeup will make you feel very confident for your session. It is also a great way to try out your makeup artist and/or hair stylist before the wedding day. Ladies, make sure your ring is sparkling and your nails look amazing for that close up ring photo.
